Tees Hot Club - Hutton Rudby
Following on from an excellent meal Tees Hot Club entertained a replete audience to a delightful dessert of Jazz and Blues music on the 29th February 2008 at the King's Head, Hutton Rudby.
The band, led by the talented Ian Bosworth on guitar, played a selection of Django pieces, Bossa numbers and a cocktail of jazz classics with a dash of Blues in between. The mellow toned vocals of Gus Smith soon had the audience joining in with popular numbers and a great atmosphere was created. Keith Wilson's solo guitar spot in Misty was a delight. Ron Hampton and Gerry Hughes on rhythm and bass guitars provided a quality background to the lead guitartists and Tim Lamb kept a stylish beat on his personalised percussion instruments.
By the interval the band were already being invited back for a repeat performance on the 19th June 2008. Don't miss this chance of a great night out. - Christine Davis
JAZZ AND BLUES evening - review
FORMA's 2008 programme of events got off to an excellent start on the 29th March at Redcar Cricket Club with a Jazz and Blues evening enjoyed by a capacity crowd. In addition to the quality musical content the audience were treated to a cold platter supper.
Tees Hot Club is a guitar/percussion band who skilfully delivered a programme of Django, Bossa and classic Jazz pieces. The Jazz numbers were complimented by the guest appearance of two elder statesmen of the North East Jazz scene, Pete Papprill and Jack Laing, who added their depth of skills with a range of instruments including tenor sax and trumpet. The rich mellow vocals of Gus Smith are always a pleasure to hear.
Redcar has a real tradition of good jazz in the past - this evening was a great indication that this tradition should be rekindled.
